- About Us
In 1905 in the small French village of Bellefontaine in the Morez region of France a company was established that made traffic signs from enamel plate and 25mm diameter red glass beads to add a degree of reflectivity. The company grew continuously over the coming years becoming the Signaux Girod group, with Claude Girod the 4th generation of his family to lead this business. Much has changed over the past 111 years. Groupe Girod now has a presence in 36 divisions within France and 11 subsidiary companies spread throughout Europe, Africa and South America. Its vast product range includes traffic and commercial signs, street furniture, Airline bag sizers/gauges and a new range of plastic road products. Turnover continues to rise and is now established at over €100 million.
Quality and sustainability :
The French manufacturing and administrative head office achieved ISO 9001 quality status in 2002. This was expanded to include its regional sales companies throughout France. This quality system has also been adopted by its subsidiary companies throughout western Europe. In 2012 the company attained the standard EN12899:2007-1 in all of its traffic signs manufacturing divisions throughout Europe. This is a mandatory requirement for any company producing traffic signs throughout the EU region.
As the Bellefontaine head office and production division is located in the heart of the Haut-Jura national park it was a natural commitment that this division adopt an approach in harmony with the environment that surrounds it. In 2006 the company was awarded the Environmental standard ISO 14001. Now more than ever sustainable development is at the centre of both it and its clients concerns.
The environmental strategy revolves around 4 major areas of focus:
- Compliance with regulations
- Preventing pollution
- Ongoing improvement
- Recovering over 80% of its industrial waste.
The company is committed to analysing the environmental impact of its activities and has established its carbon footprint in order to implement means to reduce its impact on the environment further.
